IMPROVING

ENABLING VILLAGE’S

WEBSITE (BOOKING SYSTEM)

SUMMARY

Our objectives were to design a section for the website to showcase the facilities, drive venue utilisation, and streamline the booking process. Through qualitative interviews and usability testings, we were able to gather valuable insights and came out with possible design solutions. Design solutions were presented to the management and implemented. Below is the feedback from the management:

"The new system has been a significant help for my colleagues, because they can now receive a relatively complete set of information before they follow up with visitors to advise on room availability and logistics."

THE BRIEF

The objective of the project is to design a section for the website to showcase the facilities, drive venue utilisation, and streamline the booking process with the following deliverables:

  • User research project plan

  • Takeaways from user research

  • Personas

  • Customer journey map

  • User flows

  • Prototypes

BACKGROUND OF ENABLING VILLAGE

enablingvillage.sg serves as an integrated community space for the public to understand more about their initiatives and their events. The online portal also serves as a platform for the public to book

event spaces within enabling village compound.

METHODOLOGY

1. Discover - Identifying the problems

2. Design - Ideate for solution

3. Develop - Wireframing & Prototype

4. Test - Usability test and iteration

INITIAL ENQUIRIES

We interviewed the team members who manage the current booking system and they highlighted the following considerations:

• Company may not have enough funding for certain implementations or major revamp of the website.

• Options for proposed solutions

TOP 5 SEVERITY ISSUES

A Heuristic Evaluation based on Jakob Nielson’s 10 Heuristic was done for Enabling Village Website and we are able to identify the following

top 5 issues :

  • Booking is done manually. User needs to move out of the website,
remember the email and details to send out a booking inquiries.

  • Lack of venues’ photos to help users to decide on venue booking.

  • Footer not present in “stories” page

  • Upon clicking on “Our Spaces” on main navigation, “Our Spaces”
and “Visit” are also highlighted at the same time.

  • Users have to download PDF to view venue details for booking.

TARGET AUDIENCE

We identify our target user group as people who have corporate booking experience because this user group provides more opportunity for maximising facility booking. This specific group of people were later recruited to conduct our user interviews and usability tests.

USER RESEARCH

From the information collected in the usability test and interviews, we are able to identify the users’ needs

  • I want to have more visuals and information about the facilities

  • I only want to book facilities that meet my company requirements

  • I want a fast and easy online booking process

  • I want to know the venue availability so I don’t waste my time booking

SOLUTION STATEMENT

To provide a seamless and hassle-free online booking experience, we will present a user centred, task based solution that allows the user to make a more informed decision on their facility booking.
